Top 5 Interior Design Trends in Mexico (2024)
Interior design trends of 2024 mark a shift towards a desire for homes that feel luxurious yet comfortable, approachable, and deeply personal.
As we step into 2024, interior design trends are taking a sophisticated turn, embracing luxury with a homey twist. While none of these trends are completely “new”, they are being revamped and refined to reflect the way we use our spaces (more often and more “us”). We're getting specific with what we like within each trend that builds a larger picture of understated luxury, setting a new standard for elegance and comfort in the home.
1. Luxe Vibes - Specifically “Minimaluxe”
Casa Aviv - Tulum
Minimaluxe, coined by LivingEtc. is a term we heard a lot this year, and it looks like this trend will continue well into 2024 and beyond. Minimaluxe gives a subtle lavishness without the clutter, one that feels good and calming. It’s a style with all your favorite things paired down and highlighted in open space and natural light. A few high-quality statement pieces with emphasis on subtle contrast to create spaces that are both understated and elegant –a peek-a-boo of marble as the trim of an archway, a minimalistic smooth stone coffee table, linen upholstery, light silk curtains (or no window trimmings at all), and soft leather, to name a few. The details in these spaces create the feeling of being in a luxe hotel, while maintaining a comfortable and inviting appeal.
2. Curved Design - Specifically in Wood
Toro Maple Bench - Daniel Couttolenc for Unicuo
We’re seeing a lot of curved forms throughout various design styles lately; a shape that lends a serene sophistication to a space. We are seeing it in arches, tables, light pendants, and sofas. In Mexico however, we are especially looking forward to seeing even more curves in wood furniture. We’re not talking about the live-edge tables everyone has seen here, but a more contemporary craftsmanship of expertly designed furniture. The curves of this trend are a little more on purpose, while still maintaining the natural calm wood brings to interior spaces.
Oco Dining Table - Luteca
3. Rattan - Specifically Cane
Bleecker Side Chair- West Elm
Rattan has been in style for what feels like forever, but the design and trend of its use continues to evolve. In fact, it almost seems divisive on whether this trend is out or continues to live strong, but we believe in the latter, specifically with cane. We continue to see cane used in so many beautiful little details, from drawers and cupboard doors to the backs of chairs and benches. We love it paired with rich lacquered woods and new, more contemporary furniture shapes that move it out of the more bohemian look and into something more, refined.

4. Vibrant Walls- Specifically Chocolate Brown
Gone are the days of safe, neutral wall colors, at least on All the walls. 2024 will encourage the use of eclectic, visually stimulating colors that reflect personal style and make a statement. Additionally, rich, dark color trends are emerging, with browns, blues, and even black adding drama and sophistication to interior spaces. This trend represents a move away from minimalistic color schemes, embracing individuality and personalization in home decor.
Rich chocolate brown is emerging as a surprising favorite. This rich, deep hue is part of the shift towards warmer, more earthy tones. It offers a sense of comfort and elegance, making it a popular choice for creating cozy and sophisticated spaces. Its versatility allows it to be used in various settings, from living rooms to bedrooms, either as a primary color or as an accent. This trend reflects a broader move towards natural, comforting colors in interior design, creating spaces that feel both grounded and stylish.
5. Metal Finishes - Specifically Cooler Metal Tones
Warm deep beige palette with chrome metal finishes
We're seeing a distinct shift towards a palette rich in warm tones, with an emphasis on deeper beiges, browns, and various creamy shades (as literally just mentioned above). Within this context, cool toned metals like aluminum, steel and chrome are once again emerging as a refreshingly modern element, bringing a cool-toned contrast to these warmer hues. The integration of these metallic finishes can beautifully balance spaces with earthy tones like tan and cream, adding a layer of contemporary chic. This juxtaposition of cool metallics with warm, earthy tones offers a nuanced and sophisticated approach to modern interior design, creating spaces that are both visually and emotionally dynamic.
